Kerendia® (finerenone) is an oral prescription medicine for adults with chronic kidney disease associated with type 2 diabetes. CanadianInsulin offers Canadian pricing and ships from Canada to the US with prompt, express shipping. This page explains approved uses, dosing, safety, and typical cash pay options for patients without insurance.
Qué es Kerendia® y cómo funciona
Every CanadianInsulin order is prescription-checked with your clinic and dispensed by a licensed Canadian pharmacy. Orders are filled in Canada and delivered to the US.
Kerendia® is a nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. It blocks overactivation of mineralocorticoid receptors in the kidneys and heart. This action helps reduce inflammation and fibrosis that can worsen kidney function and cardiovascular health.
Kerendia is FDA-approved to reduce the risk of sustained decline in kidney function, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack, and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with chronic kidney disease associated with type 2 diabetes. It is usually added to a background ACE inhibitor or ARB that is already optimized.

Para quién es Kerendia
Kerendia is for adults with chronic kidney disease linked to type 2 diabetes, often with albuminuria, who are already managed on an ACE inhibitor or an ARB. Clinicians consider it to further lower risks of kidney function decline and cardiovascular events.
Do not initiate if serum potassium is above 5.0 mEq/L. Starting treatment is not recommended when eGFR is below 25 mL/min/1.73 m2. Use is not recommended in severe hepatic impairment. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.

Posología y utilización
Kerendia is taken once daily, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole.
- Check serum potassium and eGFR before starting.
 - Starting dose by eGFR: eGFR ≥60 mL/min/1.73 m2: 20 mg once daily; eGFR 25 to <60: 10 mg once daily; eGFR <25: do not initiate.
 - Do not initiate if serum potassium >5.0 mEq/L; consider closer monitoring if 4.8 to 5.0.
 - Recheck potassium about 4 weeks after starting and after any dose change.
 - Titration: if potassium ≤4.8 mEq/L and eGFR is stable at 4 weeks, increase to 20 mg once daily. If potassium rises >5.5 mEq/L, withhold; consider restarting at 10 mg once daily when potassium returns to ≤5.0.

Follow the prescribing information and clinician guidance for ongoing potassium and kidney function monitoring.

Beneficios
- Reduces the risk of sustained eGFR decline and end-stage kidney disease in adults with diabetic kidney disease.
 - Reduces the risk of cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack, and hospitalization for heart failure.
 - Oral, once-daily dosing that fits routine care alongside ACE inhibitor or ARB therapy.
 - Designed as a selective, nonsteroidal blocker of the mineralocorticoid receptor.

Many treatment plans may also include glucose-lowering and cardio-renal protective therapies. For a related option often used in type 2 diabetes with kidney disease, see our article Jardiance Kidney Disease.
Efectos secundarios y seguridad
- Common: increased potassium (hyperkalemia).
 - Other reported: low blood pressure, dizziness, or low sodium.
 - Laboratory changes in kidney function may occur, usually monitored with routine blood tests.

Serious risks include clinically significant hyperkalemia. Clinicians may pause treatment and address contributing factors if potassium rises too high. Allergic reactions are uncommon but possible. Patients with reduced kidney function, those on potassium supplements, or those taking other potassium-raising drugs have a higher risk of hyperkalemia.
Interacciones medicamentosas y precauciones
- Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors: contraindicated. Examples include ketoconazole, itraconazole, and clarithromycin.
 - Strong or moderate CYP3A4 inducers: avoid. Examples include rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, and St. John’s wort.
 - Grapefruit or grapefruit juice: avoid due to increased exposure.
 - Drugs that raise potassium: use caution with potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, salt substitutes with potassium, or other MRAs.
 - Severe hepatic impairment: use not recommended.
 - Pregnancy and breastfeeding: discuss risks and benefits with a clinician.

Qué esperar con el tiempo
Kerendia works over time to help reduce risks of kidney function decline and cardiovascular events. Regular blood tests track potassium and kidney function, especially after starting or changing dose. Kidney disease progression varies, so clinicians adjust therapy based on labs and overall risk factors, including blood pressure, albuminuria, and glucose control. For background on how diabetes affects the kidneys, see Diabetes y daño renal.
Comparar con alternativas
ACE inhibitors and ARBs remain foundational for albuminuric chronic kidney disease in type 2 diabetes. Kerendia is added when appropriate to further reduce kidney and cardiovascular risk. Prescribers may also choose a specific ACE inhibitor or ARB based on blood pressure, tolerability, and kidney goals. Examples we carry include Lisinopril and the ARB combination Irbesartán Htc. Therapy choices are individualized and follow official labeling and guidelines.
Precios y acceso
CanadianInsulin provides Canadian pricing with US delivery from Canada. Start your order to see current Kerendia price by strength and pack size. Many patients compare Kerendia cost with their local pharmacy, then choose cross-border options for value.
Patients often review Kerendia 10 mg price and Kerendia 20 mg price side by side. This helps estimate a Kerendia cash price for self pay. Some compare Kerendia price without insurance to an out of pocket cost under a high deductible plan. Others review a Kerendia tablet price by 30 or 90 count to plan monthly budgets. ¿Para qué se utiliza Kerendia?
Kerendia (finerenone) is approved to reduce the risk of sustained eGFR decline, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack, and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with chronic kidney disease associated with type 2 diabetes.
How should Kerendia be taken?
Take Kerendia once daily, with or without food, and swallow the tablet whole. Typical starting dose depends on eGFR and serum potassium. Clinicians adjust dosing based on potassium checks and overall response.
What are the common side effects of Kerendia?
The most common side effect is increased potassium (hyperkalemia). Others reported include low blood pressure, dizziness, and low sodium. Clinicians monitor labs and adjust therapy if needed.
Can Kerendia be used with an ACE inhibitor or an ARB?
Yes. Kerendia is commonly added to an ACE inhibitor or an ARB that is already optimized in adults with diabetic kidney disease, per labeling and clinical guidance.
Should grapefruit be avoided with Kerendia?
Yes. Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice because it can increase finerenone levels through CYP3A4 inhibition.
What if potassium gets high while on Kerendia?
Clinicians may pause Kerendia if potassium rises too high and restart at a lower dose when potassium returns to a safe range. Follow lab guidance from the care team.
Is Kerendia a diuretic?
Kerendia is not a diuretic. It is a nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist designed to limit harmful receptor overactivation in the kidneys and heart.
