Uses of Persantine
Persantine (dipyridamole) is used intravenously to induce pharmacologic vasodilation for myocardial perfusion imaging.
Precautions and Warnings
Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use. You should not use Persantine if you are allergic to it.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- coronary artery disease (hardened arteries);
- a heart attack;
- uncontrolled chest pain (angina);
- myasthenia gravis;
- low blood pressure; or
- liver disease.
Before you have a stress test with Persantine injection: Tell your doctor if you already take this medicine by mouth, or if you take an asthma medicine called theophylline.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Dosage
The dose of intravenous Persantin used as an adjunct to myocardial perfusion imaging should be adjusted according to the weight of the patient.
Side Effects
Common Side Effects:
- headache
- dizziness
- nausea
- flushing
- shortness of breath
- weakness,
- fatigue.
Serious Side Effects:
- hives,
- difficulty breathing,
- swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
- severe dizziness,
- chest pain,
- gallstones,
- tightness or swelling of the neck, and
- yellowing of the eyes or skin
