Victoza® Prefilled Pen is a once‑daily liraglutide injection that helps adults with type 2 diabetes improve blood sugar control. Many patients choose CanadianInsulin for US delivery from Canada with prompt, express, cold‑chain shipping. The Victoza Prefilled Pen may also support modest weight changes and reduce cardiovascular risk in appropriate adults.

What Victoza® Is and How It Works

Liraglutide belongs to the GLP‑1 receptor agonist class. It helps the pancreas release insulin when glucose is high, reduces glucagon, slows stomach emptying, and can curb appetite. These combined actions support smoother post‑meal glucose and lower overall A1C when used as directed. In adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, liraglutide has demonstrated a reduction in major cardiovascular events.

At CanadianInsulin, orders are filled by licensed Canadian pharmacies after we confirm a valid prescription with your clinic.

People often compare GLP‑1 options when deciding on therapy. For a practical overview of similarities and differences, see Victoza Vs Ozempic.

Who Victoza® Is For

Indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes to improve glycemic control, alongside nutrition and activity changes. It is not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Not recommended for those with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2. Use caution in people with a history of pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, severe gastrointestinal disease, kidney impairment, or dehydration risk. Discuss pregnancy or breastfeeding plans with a clinician before starting. For broader context on the condition, explore our Type 2 Diabetes category.

Dosage and Usage

Victoza is given once daily at about the same time each day, with or without food. Treatment usually starts at a low dose for one week, then increases in stepwise fashion to a maintenance dose; some individuals may need a higher maintenance dose. A clinician will tailor the plan based on response and tolerability.

Inject subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites to reduce skin irritation. Prime a new pen as directed before first use. Attach a new needle for each injection, perform the dose as instructed, and remove the needle after use. For a deeper walk‑through, see our Victoza Dosing Guide, recommended Victoza Injection Sites, and a step‑by‑step Insulin Pen Guide.

Strengths and Forms

Victoza pens are multi‑dose, prefilled devices containing 6 mg/mL solution in 3 mL cartridges. Pens deliver selectable doses of 0.6 mg, 1.2 mg, or 1.8 mg. Pack sizes and labeling may vary by market and dispensing pharmacy.

Missed Dose and Timing

If a dose is missed, take the next dose at the usual time. Do not double up. If several doses are missed, consult the prescriber before restarting, since a gradual re‑titration may be needed to limit stomach‑related side effects.

Storage and Travel Basics

Before first use, keep pens refrigerated. Once in use, most patients store the pen at controlled room temperature, away from direct heat and light, for the period listed in the instructions; do not freeze. Always keep the cap on and remove the needle before storage. For trips, carry pens and supplies in a hand‑luggage cooler with gel packs, and avoid placing the pen directly against ice. Bring your prescription label for security screening and pack spare needles and alcohol swabs. Caution with hot cars, direct sun, or airplane cargo holds. If a pen has been exposed to extreme temperatures or was frozen, do not use it.

Temperature‑sensitive items ship with cold‑chain handling and insulated packaging.

Pen Handling and Sharps Disposal

Never share a pen or reuse a needle. Use a new needle for every injection to reduce contamination and ensure accurate dosing. After injection, remove the needle, recap safely, and place it into a puncture‑resistant sharps container. Follow local or pharmacy guidance for sharps disposal. If unsure about pen mechanics, a pharmacist or diabetes educator can demonstrate proper technique. Many patients also browse comparable devices in our catalog of Insulin Pens.

Benefits

  • Improves A1C and daily glucose levels when combined with lifestyle measures.
  • Low risk of hypoglycemia when used alone, with risk increasing if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
  • Once‑daily dosing that can be taken independent of meals.
  • May support modest weight reduction in some patients.
  • In adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, reduces the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events.

Side Effects and Safety

  • Common: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, decreased appetite, abdominal discomfort, headache, dizziness, fatigue, and injection‑site reactions.
  • Less common: indigestion, belching, bloating, or mild dehydration if fluid intake is low.

Serious but less frequent risks include pancreatitis (severe stomach pain that may spread to the back), gallbladder problems, kidney issues from dehydration, and possible hypersensitivity reactions. Because of a thyroid C‑cell tumor risk seen in rodents, liraglutide carries a boxed warning and is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. When used with insulin or sulfonylureas, the chance of low blood sugar rises; dose adjustments to the companion drug may be needed. Seek urgent care for symptoms of severe allergic reaction or pancreatitis.

Drug Interactions and Cautions

Using Victoza with insulin or sulfonylureas can increase hypoglycemia risk; clinicians often lower the dose of the companion agent. GLP‑1 therapies may slow stomach emptying and can affect the absorption of certain oral medicines; extra monitoring is prudent for drugs with a narrow therapeutic index. Avoid combining with other GLP‑1 receptor agonists. Dehydrating agents (such as some diuretics) can raise the risk of kidney problems if severe vomiting or diarrhea occurs. Tell the prescriber about all prescription drugs, over‑the‑counter medicines, and supplements being taken.

What to Expect Over Time

Stomach‑related effects like nausea are most common when starting and typically ease after the dose is stabilized. Glucose improvements generally emerge over the first weeks, with further gains after dose adjustments and sustained lifestyle measures. Weight changes, if they occur, tend to be gradual. Periodic lab checks and follow‑up visits help evaluate progress and adjust therapy as needed.

Compare With Alternatives

Other GLP‑1 options and add‑on therapies may be considered if liraglutide is not a fit. For weight‑management dosing of the same molecule, see Saxenda 6 Mg Ml. Some patients may need to intensify with insulin; a rapid‑acting choice is Novorapid Cartridge. Your prescriber will weigh history, goals, tolerance, and cost when selecting alternatives.

Pricing and Access

We arrange prompt, express, cold‑chain shipping through licensed Canadian pharmacies. Cash‑pay shoppers often find meaningful savings compared with typical local retail, including for those without insurance. Availability and Substitutions

Availability can vary by pack size or supplier. If a specific presentation is out of stock, a prescriber may recommend a clinically suitable alternative or a different quantity to cover the same duration of therapy.

Patient Suitability and Cost‑Saving Tips

Good candidates are adults with type 2 diabetes needing additional glucose control despite lifestyle changes and, if applicable, metformin or other first‑line agents. Not suitable for anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or with MEN 2. Use caution in pancreatitis history, severe gastrointestinal disease, gallbladder disease, or advanced kidney impairment.

  • Ask about multi‑month fills if appropriate; fewer shipments may lower overall costs.
  • Set refill reminders so therapy remains continuous and titration stays stable.
  • If also using insulin or a sulfonylurea, discuss whether dose adjustments can reduce hypoglycemia risk.
  • Report ongoing nausea; slower titration or supportive measures may help.

Questions to Ask Your Clinician

  • What starting and maintenance dose makes sense for my goals and history?
  • Should I adjust other diabetes medicines when adding liraglutide?
  • How can I manage nausea if it appears during titration?
  • Which injection site is best for my routine, and how often should I rotate?
  • What signs of pancreatitis or gallbladder problems should prompt urgent care?
  • How often should I check glucose and A1C while on this therapy?

    Terrible timing

Love the item, hate the delivery! Was told it would deliver Monday, on ice; and needed signature. So i had someone avail; but she found the paper on the porch that they had tried to deliver 2 days early!! So USPS had held it at the post office! Frustrating! For the high cost, one would hope for better communication!
