Latuda® is a brand of lurasidone, an atypical antipsychotic. It treats schizophrenia and depressive episodes in bipolar I disorder. This page helps you review uses, dosing, side effects, and storage. It also explains how to buy Latuda online from Canada with US delivery. You can compare Canadian pricing and see options even without insurance.
What Latuda® Is and How It Works
Latuda® contains lurasidone, a second-generation antipsychotic. It acts on dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A and 5-HT7 receptors. This receptor activity helps reduce psychotic symptoms and improves mood in bipolar depression. Tablets must be taken with food to ensure consistent absorption.
CanadianInsulin is a prescription referral service. We verify your prescription with your clinic, and licensed Canadian pharmacies dispense your order.
Latuda is available from Canada and ships to the US. The medication is for long-term management as directed by your clinician. It is not a fast-acting medicine for agitation or emergencies.
Who Latuda® Is For
Latuda is approved for adults with schizophrenia. It is also approved for adolescents aged 13 to 17 with schizophrenia, based on label guidance where available. For bipolar I disorder, Latuda treats depressive episodes as monotherapy in adults and in pediatric patients 10 to 17. It is also used as adjunct therapy with lithium or valproate in adults.
People with dementia-related psychosis should not use this medicine due to increased mortality risk. Avoid use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers. Individuals with a history of severe allergic reaction to lurasidone should not take Latuda. For condition overviews, see Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder. For bipolar depression details, visit Depressive Episodes.
Dosage and Usage
Take Latuda once daily with food containing at least 350 calories. Swallow tablets whole with water. Do not split, crush, or chew unless your clinician instructs otherwise.
- Schizophrenia, adults: Typical starting dose is 40 mg once daily with food. The effective range is commonly 40 mg to 160 mg daily. The maximum recommended dose is 160 mg per day.
- Schizophrenia, adolescents (13 to 17): Doses are initiated at lower strengths and adjusted by the prescriber.
- Bipolar depression, adults (monotherapy or adjunct): Many patients start at 20 mg once daily with food. The common range is 20 mg to 120 mg once daily. Maximum recommended dose is 120 mg per day.
- Bipolar depression, pediatric (10 to 17): Lower starting doses are used and titrated by the clinician.
Dose adjustments may be needed with certain interacting medicines or in hepatic impairment. Follow the official label and your prescriber’s directions. Do not change your dose on your own.

Missed Dose and Timing

Storage and Travel Basics
Store tablets at room temperature in the original container. Protect from moisture and excessive heat. Keep the bottle closed tightly and out of reach of children and pets.
When you travel, carry your medicine in a labeled container in your carry-on. Pack enough tablets for the trip plus extra in case of delays. You can store your refill receipt and prescription details with your travel documents for security checks. Checkout is encrypted when you place an order.
Benefits
- Once-daily dosing with food supports routine use.
- Approved for schizophrenia and bipolar depression.
- Works on dopamine and serotonin targets relevant to symptoms.
- Multiple strengths allow careful titration.
- Can be used alone or with lithium or valproate in adults with bipolar depression.
Side Effects and Safety
- Common: Sleepiness or fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, restlessness or akathisia, dizziness, tremor, and insomnia.
- Metabolic: Possible weight changes, increases in blood sugar and lipids, appetite changes.
- Neurologic: Parkinsonism, stiffness, slowed movement, or agitation.

Serious but less common risks include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, high prolactin effects, orthostatic hypotension, seizures in susceptible patients, and blood count changes. Antipsychotics carry a boxed warning for increased mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis. Because Latuda treats depressive episodes, there is also a boxed warning about suicidal thoughts and behaviors in children, adolescents, and young adults. Seek urgent care for high fever, severe muscle rigidity, confusion, uncontrolled movements, fainting, or thoughts of self-harm.
Drug Interactions and Cautions
- Do not use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole or clarithromycin.
- Do not use with strong CYP3A4 inducers such as rifampin, carbamazepine, or St. John’s wort.
- With moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors such as diltiazem or erythromycin, dose limits and adjustments may be required.
- Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice due to CYP3A4 effects.
- Use caution with other medicines that cause drowsiness or lower blood pressure.
- Monitor for additive effects when combined with lithium or valproate.
Tell your clinician about all prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and supplements you take. Share any history of heart rhythm problems, seizures, diabetes, high cholesterol, or liver disease.
What to Expect Over Time
Some patients notice changes in sleep, energy, or agitation in the first weeks. Improvements in hallucinations, delusions, or mood symptoms generally build with steady daily use. Side effects such as drowsiness or restlessness may appear early and may lessen as your body adjusts. Keep regular follow-ups and labs as directed by your prescriber.
Compare With Alternatives
Other approved options include aripiprazole and lamotrigine, depending on your diagnosis and goals. For another atypical antipsychotic, see Abilify®. For mood stabilization in bipolar disorder, see Lamictal®. To read more about aripiprazole’s role in care, explore Abilify Uses.

It may not be suitable if you have hypersensitivity to lurasidone, advanced liver disease without dose adjustment, or if you require strong CYP3A4 inducers or inhibitors. People with dementia-related psychosis should not use antipsychotics for this purpose.
