Jardiance (Empagliflozin) and weight loss

While Jardiance is prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes in order to help control blood glucose levels, a side effect of taking this medication is weight loss. Many overweight diabetics who take this medication consider this an added benefit, as it can help them lose weight. Some studies have shown that the drug can help you shed pounds without the undesirable effects of hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is a condition characterized by extremely low blood sugar levels, which may result in symptoms such as irritability, shakiness, and sweating. One study showed that people who urinate glucose as a result of using Jardiance can lose between 200 to 300 extra calories worth of glucose every day. Hence, diabetic people who use this diabetic drug may lose significant body weight. However, this medication is not approved for weight loss or as a weight loss medication. In addition to helping you lose weight, this medication can also slightly cause a reduction in your blood pressure. Another study showed that it may cause dehydration.
