Januvia (Sitagliptin) Side Effects

The possible Januvia negative effects may be mild, common, severe or rare; although there are patients who never experience the unwanted effects. It’s good to be aware of the undesired effects and the potential benefits to make an informed decision whether to take the drug or not, but with the help of the doctor.

Below are the common negative effects:

  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Back pain
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea

The above Januvia side effects are expected to clear without any medical intervention, if they don’t, contact the doctor. As for the serious side effects, medical intervention should be given immediately and the medication stopped, they include;

  • Pancreatitis– inflammation of the pancreas characterized by severe upper abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, fever, and rapid pulse
  • Less urination or none at all
  • Swelling, weight gain and shortness of breath
  • Severe skin reactions and the symptoms are, swelling in the face or tongue, fever, sore throat, skin pain, accompanied by spreading purple or red skin rash which leads to blistering and peeling
  • Severe allergic reactions, signs are hives and difficulty breathing
