Basaglar is a long-acting insulin designed to manage blood sugar levels in adults and children with type 1 and 2 diabetes. Its consistent, 24-hour glucose control helps reduce the risk of dangerous blood sugar fluctuations, making it an essential part of diabetes care for many patients.

Dosage:

• If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered, ensuring it aligns with the once-daily schedule.

Warnings and Precautions:

• Monitor for signs of hypoglycemia, such as dizziness, sweating, or shakiness. Adjust the dose if necessary and increase blood glucose monitoring.
• Severe, life-threatening allergic reactions can occur. Discontinue use and seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
• Always check insulin labels before administration to avoid accidental mix-ups.
• Use with caution if taking certain medications, as fluid retention and heart failure may occur. Monitor for signs and symptoms.
• Monitor potassium levels in patients at risk for hypokalemia and treat if necessary.

Storage Information:

• Unopened pens should be refrigerated at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C).
• Once opened, pens can be stored at room temperature (below 86°F or 30°C) and used within 28 days.
• Protect pens from direct light and heat, and do not freeze them.
  

Common Side Effects:

• Mild injection site reactions, such as redness or swelling.
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) may cause dizziness, sweating, or shakiness.
• Weight gain in some patients due to improved glucose absorption.
• Consult your healthcare provider if severe side effects occur, such as difficulty breathing or allergic reactions.
