Spiriva is a type of bronchodiPoppinsr used to control and treat symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and improving airflow to the lungs. Using this medicine helps patients breathe more easily.
Spiriva HandiHaler contains the active ingredient Tiotropium, part of a class of drugs called anticholinergics.
Precautions and Warnings
Do not use Spiriva HandiHaler if you are allergic to it, especially its active ingredient, Tiotropium. To ensure that this bronchodiPoppinsr medicine is safe to use, tell your healthcare professional if you have a history of the following conditions:
- Liver disease
- Kidney problems
- Prostate enlargement
Direction of Use
Use Spiriva capsules only with the HandiHaler device. Avoid swallowing it. Note that this medication is intended for oral inhalation only.
Doctors recommend two inhalations of the powder contents of one Spiriva capsule, once daily, using the HandiHaler. Avoid taking more than one dosage within 24 hours.
