What is Invokana (Canagliflozin)?

Invokana is the brand name of the prescription medication canagliflozin. It is manufactured by Janssen, Inc. and is indicated for the treatment of patients with Type 2 diabetes. It is used to improve the control of blood glucose levels in adults. It belongs to the sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor drug class.

Invokana is available in 100mg and 300mg tablets. The starting dose is typically 100mg taken once daily by mouth, with or without food. However, it is best to take it before the first meal of the day.

How long does Invokana stay in your system?

After taking Invokana, the maximum concentration of the medicine occurs within one to two hours. This medication should be taken at the same time daily. Steady state has been shown to occur within four to five days of once daily dosing.

The half life of Invokana, or the amount of time it takes for the drug to decrease by half, is about 10.6 hours when taking the 100mg dose. Canagliflozin’s half life is about 13.1 hours for the 300mg dose.
