What is NovoMix 30 Penfill?
NovoMix 30 Penfill is a medication containing insulin aspart and protamine-crystallized insulin aspart in a ratio of 30/70. It is formulated so that 1 mL of suspension contains 100 units of the 30/70 insulin mix. Insulin is a hormone that is typically naturally produced in the pancreas to control glucose levels in the blood. However, people who have diabetes either cannot produce insulin naturally, or their body cannot properly use its insulin.
What is this medication used for?
The insulin is used to help control blood sugar levels in adults, adolescents, and children 10 years and older with diabetes mellitus. In patients with type 2 diabetes, NovoMix 30 Penfill can be given as a sole medication or in combination with other oral antidiabetic medications. This drug can fully or partially provide the daily individual insulin requirements for patients with type 1 diabetes.
How to take it
NovoMix 30 Penfill contains rapid-acting and intermediate-acting insulin and must be taken only as a subcutaneous injection. It must be injected into the skin and the injection site should be rotated within the same area.
This insulin should be taken either immediately before a meal, or, if necessary, shortly after a meal. This is because it has a fast onset of action, particularly compared to biphasic human insulin. NovoMix 30 Penfill is designed to be used with a reusable pen.
NovoMix 30 Penfill side effects
NovoMix 30 was approved in 2000 and is proven safe and effective. However, some individuals may experience side effects as a result of use. If a patient experiences any severe side effects, they should contact their doctor immediately.

It is recommended that patients with type 2 diabetes start with a dose of 6 units in the morning at breakfast and 6 units in the evening with dinner. It can also be administered once daily as 12 units with the evening meal. If the drug is given once daily, injections should be split into two equal doses if the overall daily dose reaches 30 units.
