How Effective Is Rybelsus as an alternative to Ozempic

Is Rybelsus the best alternative to Ozempic?

Ozempic and Rybelsus are type 2 diabetes suppressors with GLP-1 receptor agonists as a main component. They are both brand names of the generic medication semaglutide. Both Rybelsus and Ozempic improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes and reduce blood sugar and weight.

For many years, Rybelsus and Ozempic have been moderately popular medications for Type 2 diabetes. However, market research shows that Ozempic can lose its leverage in the market very soon after a sudden surge in its demand in early 2023. Experts attribute the reasons to:

  1. Its global shortage in the market today and
  2. The convenience of taking an oral medication like Rybelsus that survives at room temperature.

Rybelsus Versus Ozempic

The formulation of Rybelsus is found in Ozempic, making both effective drugs for Type 2 diabetes management. However, we give a few extra points to Rybelsus.

  1. It is an oral medication and, therefore, easier to use.
  2. You can store it at room temperature.

Both Rybelsus and Ozempic are Equally Effective

In a six-month study involving Rybelsus, researchers concluded that Rybelsus is just as effective as Ozempic.

One of the findings from this research indicated that taking 7 mg of Rybelsus can reduce hemoglobin A1c levels by up to 1.2%. The second finding confirmed that the same amount of Rybelsus can also reduce eight by 5-8 pounds in a few days.

However, it is essential to note that neither the manufacturers nor FDA have approved Rybelsus or Ozempic for weight loss. However, based on research, the off-label use of both medications can be equally effective.

Rybelsus is Easier to Use

In terms of ease of use, Rybelsus clearly has the upper hand because you only need to take it orally. Although Ozempic is a once-weekly treatment, injections can be painful and may cause discomfort in the long run. Additionally, injectables aren’t for everyone, especially for individuals with a phobia of needles or those uncomfortable with self-injections.

For the initial dose, start with taking 3 mg of Rybelsus once daily for 30 days. After this period, increase the dosage to 7 mg once daily. If needed, you can upgrade to 14 mg once daily dose for additional glycemic control.

For patients switching from Ozempic to Rybelsus, the starting dosage is 7 mg of Rybelsus for up to 7 days after their last Ozempic injection.

Rybelsus can be stored at room temperature.

You can store and ship Rybelsus at room temperature. On the contrary, Ozempic is an injectable that needs cold shipping. You may end up spending more on logistics to maintain the temperature. However, Novo Nordisk has claimed that Ozempic can work in average temperatures too. Refrigerate the medicine before use to get the best results.

Cheaper alternative to Ozempic

30 pills of Rybelsus 3mg, 7mg, 14mg cost $297.99 with Canadian insulin. In contrast, Ozempic will cost $335.00 with Canadian insulin. We say Rybelsus is cheaper.

Is it possible to switch from Ozempic to Rybelsus?

Yes, switching from Ozempic to Rybelsus is possible for a Type 2 Diabetes patient under medical supervision. A treatment regimen with Rybelsus is more suitable if you prefer oral medications instead of injectables, want to save money, and look for more convenience. Your dosage and the frequency of taking the drug will also change.
