Actos (Pioglitazone) Dosage

Share Post:

What is Pioglitazone (Actos)?

Pioglitazone is an oral diabetes drug that is used to manage blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetic patients. The brand name for pioglitazone is Actos. This diabetes drug is usually prescribed with a diet and exercise program. The drug belong to a class of diabetes drugs known as thiazolidinediones. It is important you take Actos regularly, so that you can maximize its benefits. If you are using other diabetes medication, like metformin, tell your doctor so that he can advise you on how to switch your medication.

Actos Dosage

The starting dose of actos is 15 mg or 30 mg. If your body is unresponsive (your blood sugar isn’t being reduced) to the lower doses, your health care practitioner may increase the dose to 45 mg. The dosage and the use of pioglitazone for children are determined by the doctor. Many things affect the dosage used on a particular patient, like one’s needs, body weight, existing health conditions and medications.

In the case of a missed dose, take it once you remember it; however, don’t take it if it’s almost time for the next dose. Never take a double dose to make up for a skipped dose. Bear in mind if the health practitioner has prescribed a different dose, and it’s not mentioned in the article, don’t change it but follow the dose as prescribed by your doctor.
