Baytril is a prescription antibiotic commonly used in veterinary medicine to treat bacterial infections in dogs and cats. It contains enrofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Baytril is used to treat infections of the skin, urinary tract, respiratory system, and digestive tract.

Benefits

  • Effectively treats a wide range of bacterial infections in pets
  • Fast-acting and well-absorbed in both dogs and cats
  • Often used when other antibiotics are not effective
  • Available in tablets or injectable form for flexibility in treatment

Dosage

  • The dosage depends on your pet’s weight, infection type, and overall health
  • Typically given once daily, with or without food
  • Tablets should not be crushed—give whole as directed by your vet
  • Complete the full course even if your pet seems better

Warnings and Precautions

  • Not recommended for growing puppies under 8 months (large breeds under 12 months) due to risk of joint problems
  • Use with caution in pets with kidney or central nervous system disorders
  • Should not be used in pregnant or nursing animals unless advised by a vet
  • Can cause drug interactions—inform your vet of all medications and supplements your pet is taking
  • Do not use in pets allergic to fluoroquinolones

How to Use

  • Follow your veterinarian’s instructions exactly
  • Administer at the same time each day
  • Ensure your pet has access to water during treatment
  • If a dose is missed, give it as soon as you remember—but do not double the dose

Storage

  • Store tablets at room temperature (15–30°C or 59–86°F)
  • Keep in a dry place, away from light and moisture
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets

Side Effects

  • Common: decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy
  • Other possible: dizziness, restlessness, or behavioral changes
  • Serious (contact your vet): seizures, joint stiffness or limping in young dogs, signs of allergic reaction (swelling, hives, difficulty breathing)
