Cerenia are a prescription medication used to prevent and treat vomiting in dogs, including motion sickness. The active ingredient, maropitant citrate, works by blocking signals in the brain that cause nausea and vomiting, providing reliable relief and improving your dog’s comfort during travel or illness.

Dosage
- For use in dogs only
- For prevention of motion sickness:
- Recommended dose is 8 mg/kg, given orally once daily for up to 2 consecutive days
- Administer at least 2 hours before travel, with a small amount of food
- For treatment of acute vomiting:
- Recommended dose is 2 mg/kg once daily, for up to 5 consecutive days
- Tablets come in strengths of 16 mg, 24 mg, 60 mg, and 160 mg to match various dog weights
- Do not split or crush the tablets
- Always follow your veterinarian’s specific instructions
Warnings and Precautions
- Not for use in dogs under 16 weeks of age
- Use cautiously in dogs with liver disease
- Do not use in dogs with known sensitivity to maropitant
- Safe use in pregnant or breeding dogs has not been fully established
- Inform your veterinarian about all medications your dog is taking
How to Use
- Give tablet orally once daily as prescribed
- Can be given with or without food, but a small meal is recommended to avoid vomiting
- Administer at the same time each day during treatment
- Do not skip doses or adjust the amount without veterinary guidance

- Protect from moisture and light
- Keep tablets in their original packaging until use
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
Side Effects
- Common: drowsiness, drooling, or loss of appetite
- Less common: diarrhea, lethargy, or injection site discomfort (if previously given injectable form)
- Rare but serious: signs of allergic reaction, such as facial swelling or difficulty breathing—seek immediate veterinary attention if these occur
