Rimadyl is a prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain and inflammation in dogs, especially due to arthritis, joint problems, or post-operative pain. The active ingredient, carprofen, helps improve mobility and comfort so your dog can stay active and happy.

Dosage
- For dogs only (not for cats)
- The typical recommended dose is 4.4 mg/kg of body weight per day, which can be:
- Given once daily, or
- Divided into 2 doses of 2.2 mg/kg twice daily
- Example:
- A 20 kg dog may receive 88 mg per day (e.g., one 75 mg and one 25 mg tablet split across the day)
- Dosage may vary depending on your dog’s condition and your vet’s recommendation
- Tablets can be given with or without food
- Injectable form is administered by a veterinarian
Warnings and Precautions
- Not for use in cats or humans
- Do not use in dogs with bleeding disorders, liver or kidney disease, or pre-existing stomach ulcers
- Not for use in pregnant, lactating, or breeding dogs
- Do not give with other NSAIDs or corticosteroids
- Let your vet know if your dog is taking any other medications
- Periodic blood tests may be needed to monitor safety during long-term use

- Give tablets orally, as directed by your veterinarian
- Keep a consistent dosing schedule
- Provide fresh water at all times
- Monitor for side effects, especially during the first days of use
- Follow all instructions from your vet closely

Side Effects
- Common: vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, tiredness
- Less common: black/tarry stools, increased thirst or urination, behavior changes
- Serious (contact your vet immediately): yellowing of gums/eyes, seizures, blood in stool or vomit, allergic reactions (facial swelling, hives, difficulty breathing)
