Tradjenta Side Effects
As with any medication, Tradjenta may cause some side effects. Some of these effects can be serious in nature, so if you suffer from any of the following symptoms you should stop taking this medicine immediately and tell your doctor or health care provider:
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
When taking Trajenta, you could suffer from stomach pain. You may also experience a loss of appetite or a rapid heart rate. The discomfort may spread to your back and could cause nausea and vomiting. If the pain is sharp and does not go away, it could be a sign of an inflamed pancreas.
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
You should tell your doctor if you are taking any other diabetes medications, like insulin or a sulfonylurea, because your blood sugar levels may become too low. If this happens, you could become dizzy or lightheaded. You may experience the side effects of hypoglycemia, including blurred vision, headaches, increased heart rate, jittery or shaky feelings, mood changes such as anxiety or irritability, slurred speech, hunger, confusion or drowsiness. If these side effects occur, it does not necessarily mean you cannot take Linagliptin, but you should tell your doctor, who may then adjust your dose.
- Muscle or joint pain
If you experience severe and persistent joint pain, stop taking Tradjenta and inform your doctor or health care provider.
- Skin rash (bullous pemphigoid)
While taking these tablets, you may develop a severe skin rash that blisters and peels. The rash may require hospital treatment.
- Severe allergic reactions
Some people may have an allergic reaction to Linagliptin. If at any time you have trouble breathing or swallowing, you develop a rash or itching, swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat, stop taking these tablets right away and get emergency medical attention.
The most common negative effects include
- sore throat
- runny nose
- cough
- weight gain
- headache
- back pain
- low blood sugar
- diarrhea.
These mild side effects do not usually require medical attention and should fade as your body adjusts to the medication.
Together with a diet and exercise plan, Tradjenta can be an effective medication to help you manage blood sugar levels.
Doctor’s Recommendation
Patients should tell their physicians if they or a first-degree relative has experienced acute pancreatitis, as this may reduce the probability of such an incidence occurring. It is also wise to abstain from concurrent ethanol consumption due to the increased probability of adverse effects, including acute pancreatitis.
