Best blood sugar monitor device

Aside from following a healthy, balanced diet and taking insulin treatments, regular blood sugar monitor is one the effective ways to manage type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It helps you control your blood sugar levels before and after eating. It makes diabetes management easier.

What is the best blood sugar monitor? Here is a list of the widely used blood glucose monitoring system for people with diabetes. Consider the following:

Accu-Chek Aviva Connect Meter

If you are searching for the best device to monitor blood sugar, Accu-Chek should be one of your options. It is generally used at home, especially for self-testing. It follows a wireless technology where you can quickly transfer your blood sugar data to your Android and Apple devices. This blood glucose monitoring system features a lancing device called Accu-Chek FastClix. It is one of the least painful lancing devices created for diabetes monitoring.

Freestyle Freedom Lite Meter

Aside from Accu-Check Meter, the Freestyle Freedom Lite Meter is one of the most acceptable and accessible blood glucose monitoring systems today. It has a small and portable glucometer used for self-testing. With just a few seconds, you can see your blood sugar data using this system. It has compatible test strips, necessary for every blood glucose monitor and test.

OneTouch Verio Blood Glucose Meter

What’s unique about OneTouch Verio is the presence of color-coded features that help people understand their results better. If the result is red, your blood sugar is above average, blue means below average and green means normal.  Most people find this device extremely user-friendly and handy.

Non Invasive Glucose Monitor

Freestyle Libre

If you prefer a blood sugar monitor device that does not involve a finger prick, CGM is suitable for you. One of its best examples is Freestyle Libre. How does it work? It works through a sensor attached to the upper arm. To read your data, you only need to wave the monitor device in front of the sensor. It’s very easy and simple to use. However, you need to change the sensor every 14 days.

Other forms of CGM include:

  • Eversense CGM
  • Dexcom G6 CGM
  • Guardian Connect System
  • D-Base

Glucose monitor types

There are different types of blood sugar monitor devices. The most common is the use of metering systems involving a finger prick. Generally, you need a lancet to prick your finger so you can extract a drop of blood for the test. This is where test trips are required and inserted into the meter. So, how to monitor blood sugar using such glucometers?

  • Before testing, check the date and time on the glucometer. If the details are correct, continue with the process. However, if the details are incorrect, adjust it before proceeding.
  • Wash your hands first before starting the process or touching the devices.
  • Insert the test strip into the glucometer.
  • Draw a tiny drop of blood from your finger by pressing the lancing device against your fingertip (preferably the side of your finger).
  • Put the blood drop on the end of the test strip.
  • A text that reads “Analyzing” should display on the glucometer screen.
  • Record your results.

Besides the mentioned glucometers, non invasive glucose monitor devices are also available. This includes the CGM or continuous glucose meter.
