What is Apidra SoloSTAR Pen?
Apidra SoloSTAR Pen is the brand name of insulin glulisine. Insulin glulisine is a fast acting insulin that works quickly to control blood sugar levels. This medication is commonly prescribed together with long acting insulin. Insulin glulisine has an onset time of 15 minutes, a peak time of 1 hour and duration of 4 hours. The drug is usually taken by patients with diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition characterized by high blood sugar levels as a result of the pancreas failing to produce the hormone insulin. Insulin is a natural hormone that helps to regulate blood sugar levels. This is where Apidra SoloSTAR Pen comes in. Patients with diabetes mellitus can take insulin glulisine to help them control their blood sugar levels. When injected, insulin glulisine works by helping glucose enter the cells for fuel. This helps to lower high blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to insulin glulisine or any of its ingredients.
Dosage
Insulin glulisine can be taken subcutaneously or intravenously. Your health-care provider will show you how to inject insulin glulisine at home. Make sure you change the injection site every time you take a new dose. The dosage of insulin glulisine varies depending on your individual needs, but should be taken every day. Apidra SoloSTAR Pen should be taken within 15 minutes before or 20 minutes after eating. You should not take an extra dose of this medication if you missed your regular dose. Instead take the missed dose as soon as possible. If your next dose is near and you missed the last one, skip the missed dose and follow the normal dosing schedule. In case you overdose on insulin glulisine, you should seek medical help immediately. A drug overdose of insulin glulisine may lead to hypoglycemia that could be fatal.
